From last night's ARD (public TV, Channel One) news....they did a pretty critical piece over the CDU and it's Chancellor candidate (Laschet).
They point out there is no love between Laschet and the CSU guy Soder. Soder had expectations that he'd get the call to be the candidate, and the executive committee of the CDU stopped that possibility.
If you did look at numbers today....a majority of folks would prefer Soder over Laschet.
If you wrote a 'script' on how to pretend to be Chancellor-material....Soder probably delivered on each single requirement. If you measured a guy on Covid-dedicated programs or pushing people on certain requirements....he maxed out.
It's a harsh news piece but probably correct.
