Germans, Covid, and Vacations

DAK is one of the major health insurance companies of Germany, and when they say something....it's statistically accurate.  So N-TV brought up this one odd story today.

Germans really hype vacations, and the necessity for them.  Their general claim is that they work extra hard all year, and that week, to three weeks of vacation is the only chance that they have to 're-charge'.

So, DAK says that 20-percent of Germans didn't get their restful or normal vacation this summer.

Relaxation?  It simply didn't happen.

This occurring more with women than men?  Well....their numbers suggest that.

Covid an active part of the planning or process?  Absolutely.  You have to plan a test situation prior to take-off, worry about Covid at the beach resort (in Spain, Turkey, or Greece), then plan another test situation upon the return.  I would imagine if you asked any German who went to Spain this summer about their reflections on Covid....each would probably admit a minimum of 45 minutes a day....either thinking over Covid, or worrying about being a bar where Covid might descend down upon them. The thinking and worrying never go away.

It's hard to imagine any German surviving an entire 24 hour period now, without some participation, some worrying, some bus-ride potential, some ban-rule chatter, some news mention or having a friend/associate gossip up over Huns down the street who got Covid from a bar he frequents.
