Yearly Car Tax Going Up?

Yes.

Focus went and did a big discussion over the new tax program coming in 2021 for cars in Germany (doesn't matter if you use gas or diesel).

Generally, on top of what you were paying before (in the 100 to 200 Euro range), you can figure it'll be an average of 130 Euro on top of the previous amount.

Presently most people, with a older car (prior to 2009) with 2.1-size engine, were paying in the range of 140 Euro (under the old tax system).

The implication?  Well....they want to ease you out of gas/diesel....to electric cars.

The odds that it'll go up again within five years?  Pretty good bet to make, and likely to start hitting the 500 Euro range.  Getting Germans enthusiastic about the electric cars is what I would say mildly working at this point.
