Well, ARD (public TV, Channel One) got onto the topic, and discussed the effect.
Basically, the big hyped improvement to the economy? It has not occurred.
This change was supposed to last until 1 January 2021, and revert back to 19-percent.
Some operations are giving the customer the 3-percent off.....some are using the same pricing scheme and consuming the 3-percent to cover losses during the shut-down period.
Somewhere in this mix....24-lost billion Euro exists....or would have existed....if the 19-percent VAT had stayed on.
But ARD goes on to discuss the current economy, and suggests that one out of each four businesses are in serious trouble, and mass bankruptcy is probably going to occur by the end of 2020.
If a second wave occurs, and mass shutdowns start up again? That will finish off a bunch of German stores and commercial operations.
The discussion of carrying the reduced VAT into 2021? That has started up but I'm guessing that the government can't maintain the lost VAT for a long period of time. Maybe some 90 day period will be added but I would seriously doubt that this goes long-term.
