Accident Story

It was a very odd accident that occurred in my region yesterday....cops are still asking questions.

Down in Darmstadt, along the A5 autobahn....there's a exit to a autobahn gas station. For some unknown reason....a car came off the autobahn at a high speed....driving straight into the refueling station, and hitting the pumps.

Massive destruction and fire started up.

Driver?  He never exits the vehicle, and is dead.

Amount of attention by the fire department?  At least five hours for them to safely say it was concluded.

What's pointed out is that only by the quick reaction by the clerk on duty (hitting the off-switch to the tanks)....did this avoid a five-star mess and more deaths.

So what triggered the guy to drive into the pumps?  Unknown, but the medical folks suggest it was possibly a suicidal situation.  I have my doubts on this....I'd be asking for drug analysis before getting to the idea of suicide.

Update: 24 hours later, police say the guy came off the autobahn and into the gas station area at 150 kph (93 mph)....no braking, full impact.  ID is still not confirmed.
