Last night, via ARD (public TV, Channel One) news....the amount of 'fixing' the flood region in NW Germany came up.
Thirty-billion Euro.
This figure comes from both the states and the federal government.
The speed of this 'recovery'? Unknown. If you look at the broad amount of damage...lack of electricity/gas/sewage/water....and general rural nature, this is a hefty task.
I saw an interview yesterday of a local guy from one of the affected villages....he was more or less giving up and just taking his insurance money (leaving).
If you asked me on the numbers of people who likely think like this guy? I would suggest by the 90-day point....probably one out of every four people in the 'zone' will be planning an exit of some type.
Some of these villages won't be seeing a normal return to business for at least five years, and populations will be less in the end.
