Another Virus

Back in 1967....in Germany and Yugoslavia....this disease broke out.  Authorities would later confirm that thirty-one people got infected....of which seven died (yeah, it'a s harsh and dynamic virus).

Chief facts?  Oddly enough, it showed up in Marburg and Frankfurt....here in what was West Germany, and in Belgrade.

So the general belief is that somehow...Grivet monkeys were brought in for lab situations, and they brought the disease into Europe.  Yeah, it does sound a bit risky but this was 1967.

So when this situation ended in 1967....the hype over the Marburg virus ended? NO.  Around the mid-1970s....Kenya had an outbreak (three people infected, one dead).  It generally came and went....at five more occasions.  The Congo has had this reoccurring a fair bit, with the death rate way above fifty percent.

Now, why I bring this up?  Well....N-TV had an update today.....talking over Guinea, Africa.  They had the Marburg virus show back up again.

The developmental stage of it?  The science guys say five to ten days, with fever and chills being the chief symptoms noted.  It's fairly rapid after that where you have diarrhea, shock, hemorrhaging and potential organ failure.

Here in the Frankfurt area of 1967, this was fairly hyped-up and front-page news for an entire month as the cases occurred....so folks over the age seventy remember the period.
