In the last couple of years, my local town has become a time-slot 'no-go' area. Once you get past 11 PM in Wiesbaden....until probably 5 PM.....there's probably five or six areas that I'd tell you to avoid and not walk around. It's not that way for the remaining 18 hours out of the day.
Today, cops reported from last night....some guy was engaged upon and threatened around the Markstrasse area (the dividing point between central town and the westside).
A knife was produced by the one idiot....and a chase started up.
A minute or so passed in this chase, and the two bumped into the police patrol. There, the knife-dude got their attention real quick.
Arrested, blood drawn for booze/drugs, and then taken to the station.
Charges? Well....this doesn't go well. The guy is up for the weapons act situation....which carries a potential fine of up to 10,000 Euro, and for prison....up to three years in possible. But they also list dangerous bodily harm....which goes potentially up to five years. So just to intimidate some idiot, and feel a surge of strength....the idiot could end up with a year or two of real prison time.
My general take is that things over the past decade or two has shifted in town, and there's a fair number of young guys who get blitzed on some drug, and do some stupidity while drunk. The authorities can talk about increased patrols, and a weapons-free zone....but what you really need is a stupidity-free zone.
