TV-Media Tax Chatter

Last night (Thursday)....both the regional German state news (via HR) and the 8 PM national news on public TV (ARD)....started up with the breathtaking news that the 86-cent TV tax had been forced into place (via the Constitutional Court decision).

Each dedicated around four to five minutes to the hype....wanting you to feel relieved, soothed, and comforted that 'good' had won against 'evil' (my words).

The general sales pitch....you get continued high-quality public TV and totally independent news without any fake stuff or political influence upon their product.

The key thing?  Well...with that CDU white-paper out there which strongly hints of forced reorganization of public TV/radio....there needs to be some way to really defeat the CDU in this upcoming election.

The comical part of this whole news chatter....they had a video sequence rigged up of a couple of coins adding up to 86 cents and continually played this....like you would see those 'feed-Africa' commercials where if you just sent $1.99 each month to this charity group....they'd feed starving kids in Africa.  It's such a small amount and you shouldn't have any shame in pitching 86 lousy cents to ensure public TV/radio continue to be....well....swell.

So now?  You can figure that the 86 cents get you some relief for about three years, and then the chatter will start up about another rise of some type.
