Lot of hyped-up political chatter this week on the topic. ARD source says things might change.
Presently....Bundestag is made up of 736 members. If you asked the general public about the numbers and the mechanism.....I doubt if you can find more than 1-percent who know the number and why it exists.
The general chatter for almost ten years? The mechanism made no sense, and most agreed it needed to be downsized.
Coalition agreeable? Right now.....the plan is for 598 members after the next election. Opposition? Some. It is believed that the SPD, Greens and FDP....have the votes to force this through.
Will it be undone in five to ten years? Well....anyone's guess.
If you tried to do this by districts? Well....there are 401 total....but they are not all in the size size or population scheme.
The general talk against it? I'd say most goes to the problem of dismissing 130-odd people and sending them home. After arriving back in their hometown....then what?
