My local town (Wiesbaden) announced yesterday that E-bus number 100 had arrived.
The plan? There will be a total of 120 of these E-buses and ten fuel-cell type....by the end of the year.
They claim that they will have the largest fleet of E-buses in Germany shortly.
I've ridden a couple of times on the E-buses, and just say....they do operate quietly (some fan noise). If you asked about the battery drain time....no idea.
I should state this fact....the bulk of city is 4 km by 4 km. The outer suburbs (like my village)? Well....their words are that E-buses will never be used for the longer routes. There will still continue to be either natural-gas fuel buses or diesel buses somewhere in the mix.
For the record, Wiesbaden has 73 routes, and 440 'stops'.
What I anticipate to happen? Once we get into a harsh 10-day long winter 'blitz'....I think the E-bus strategy will be a mess and chaotic. Same story if we ran through ten days of 35-degree C weather.
