Somewhere along the 1990s.....your furnace in the basement got modernized, and it made sense (economically) to heat the water there, and pump it up to the bath and kitchen. I'd say today....probably more than 80-percent of people get their heated water via that method.
So, here's the curious thing about to develop....that furnace in the basement....is heated by natural gas. The cost factor? It's not going to just double....it'll likely triple.
So there's going to be massive interest to have these electrical hot-water heaters installed. General cost? 150 to 600 Euro....depending on the model and the tank size....heating water by electric means.
My humble bet? By April of 2023.....I bet over half the houses/apartments in Germany are having the system installed.
Affecting electrical usage and increasing that bill? OH YEAH.
Kinda funny.....people migrated away from this, and now migrating back to the old technology.

We sold our old house a few years ago that had these Durchlauferhitzers and boy could they eat electricity. The electric meter would spin like a fan on high.
Well...a choice between natural gas rates or electrical rates....begs the question which will be the best choice.
Same issue with the stupid E-Car business...I can see that 'spin' reaching some level where E-cars make no sense. Unless you hook up some solar panels on the roof....none of this makes logical sense.
