The Quiet Sinking of the X-Class Truck

I doubt if anyone really noticed this, but the 3-year experiment for Mercedes to produce a truck....ended back in May of this year. The X-class line was completely shut down at that point.

I was impressed with the X-class demo at the 2017 Frankfurt car-show.  Just about everything you'd want in a truck, and it was fitted for max-comfort.

The chief problem with it?  $42k for just a plain regular version of the truck.  If you went for the bigger engine and regular features (255 Hp).....it was at the $100k range.

The other sad problem was that you felt like this was a vehicle that you couldn't haul hay in the back or ride out in some field.  It was like a show-vehicle.  You figure the full-up option list and the 188 Hp (turbo version)....you were easily talking $75k.  Who would pay out that much for a truck that was mostly a show-thing?
