There's a fairly decent report this morning via N-TV in Germany....covering the Vienna terror attack.
I've told the basic story over this guy (20 years old)....tried to run off in 2018 to the ISIS war in Syria, and was caught....dragged back to Vienna, and faced charges. He ended up with a 22-month sentence, but agreed to a deradicalization program to get the bulk of the months 'removed'.
Officials are discussing the program, how this guy fell through, and things that no one really conceived back three years ago when they built this deprograming effort.
In this guy's case....the deprograming led to this situation where the young guy then began to question his faith, and was probably (by my view) suffering a mental breakdown.
All of this doubt, pressure, stress....led to this guy then having "despair".
So, in some odd way....the deprograming led to him being suicidal and willing to take this terror act to the top level. Deprograming didn't really help....it just transformed him into a person who needed to prove his faith.
More meetings in Vienna? A lot of the upper level government people will be meeting over this situation, and I'm guessing the deprograming idea will be openly discussed as a failure.
The idea that a person can be brain-washed, and then deprogramed in some way....might not be possible.
