I noticed this morning that ARD (Channel One from the public TV business here in Germany) had a new poll up on the election.
The key thing to this poll? Trends.
The CDU is on a downward trend...presently at 27-percent. The SPD is on a upward trend....3 points up....presently at 18-percent. The Greens lost a point in the past week or two (presently at 19-percent).
If trends were to hold? The SPD might come near to winning at the 26 September national election.
Chief problem for the CDU? Well....their Chancellor candidate (Laschet). For all of the criticisms that occurred when they selected him.....most have come true, and hurt the party....more than helped them.
How I might view the trends for the next two weeks? I think the CDU will lose another point, and the SPD probably will pass the Greens....being at/near 20-percent.
In a normal world, this would all be exciting and getting people hyped-up over the election, and Merkel finally exiting. But you really don't sense that feeling, and no one is really that thrilled over the three choices for the Chancellor.
