Germany's Upcoming Transgender Law

This past week....the German government (SPD-Greens-FDP) announced the draft to the new transgender law.   The key official noting this?  Family Affairs Minister Lisa Paus.

The working title?  Self-determination law.

Prior to this point, the 'rule was....you went to court....providing two doctor reports that your first name and gender had changed.  It'd been on the books since the 1980s.

New law?  If you are an adult....you walk into the local county registration office (at your Rothaus), and 'declare' it (zero paper, zero doctors).  If you are 14 or under....you only do it via permission of the parents.  Evidence of treatment or an operation?  No....none.  Same thing for the name change.

So here is the odd factor....you are only going to be allowed to do this once per year (gender change/name change).

I sat there and envision reality.  This once a year thing?  It'll be challenged in court immediately.   The court will come back to the government and ask...why just one change a year?  The government will respond that if you don't concrete this down....folks will be changing five or six times a year and creating mass confusion.  I don't think the court will buy this excuse.

Pondering over this....I keep thinking I might select one the of the 52 genders, and just walk into the German registration office to claim one....then have my name-change done.  I was thinking of the name 'Rufus', 'Lord Byron', and 'Humpty Dumpty'.

Me not taking this serious?  Oh, I think more than a million Germans will take this in a silly way, and start identifying as woman or man.....without any medical stuff done or wearing the style of clothing for that sex.  I suspect in three years....the government will admit that this whole chaotic period has made things ten times worse than one could imagine.

Einstein wrote once: "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

52? Care to name them or is it just more hyperbole that keeps people clutching their pearls?

Actually....58 of them...https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/02/heres-a-list-of-58-gender-options-for-facebook-users

If you ask me in the last year or two...it's probably over a hundred.

But if you ask me, purely on a scientific basis...I'd say 2. If you landed a 'x' and a 'x' on some deserted planet...in ten years, there would probably still be the same number.

I like this fantasy game...makes life more like a cyborg or zombie movie. We need weird entertainment in our lives.
